  • Big Three Parties and Madhesi Front to strike a deal on Monday

    Kathmandu, Jan 17: Finally, the big three political parties and the agitating Madhesi Front have concluded to accept the decision of a high level political committee on provincial border and other disputes.

    The leaders from both sides have said they have reached near the agreement and would sign on the deal on Monday.

    Taskforce member and Nepali Congress leader Mahesh Acharya said basis for the agreement was created gradually, and now it was to concretize the agreement. The Saturday meeting had discussed on the issues raised by the Madhesi Front as formation of a political committee and its mandate, he added.

    Similarly, Co-Chairman of the Sadbhavana Party, Laxman Lal Karna said, "There was a long discussion on formation of the political committee, its legitimacy and its work area. The taskforce has reached near consensus. After holding discussion within the parties, the meeting will finalize the matter on Monday itself."

    The major three political parties- NC, CPN-UML and the UCPN (Maoist) were proposing the Madhesi Front to settle the disputes including the provincial borders in three months through the formation of a high level political committee.

    UCPN (Maoist) leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara also said both sides are very serious to resolve disputes. The talks have made a concrete achievement.

    The Monday meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Bhim Rawal, UCPN (Maoist) General Secretary Mahara, NC leader Acharya, Co-Chairman of Tarai-Madhes Loktantrik Party, Hridayesh Tripathi, Dr Mangal Siddhi Manandhar from Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, and Ram Naresh Raya of Tarai Madhes Sadbhavana Party.
