  • PM to respond to Public Accounts Committee on Ncell

    Monday 3rd of April

Kathmandu, April 3: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' is to inform the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) regarding the ongoing government actions regarding the collection of the capital gains tax from the telecommunications company Ncell.

PAC Chair Dor Prasad Upadhyay told RSS that PM Dahal would inform the PAC at its meeting on April 9 regarding the government actions regarding the tax collection from Ncell.

Upadhyay told RSS that the meeting was fixed as per the PAC's decision to seek information from the PM about the capital gains tax of the Ncell. "The PM has said that he would put all issues clearly in the PAC meeting. The PAC would also make its preparations," he added.

The parliamentary committee had sought PM's response after the conflicting statement on the capital gains tax of the Ncell. Swedish TeliaSonera had handed over the company's ownership to the Malaysian Axiata without paying the capital gains tax.

The TeliaSonera has been denying to pay Rs 43 billion worth of capital gains tax despite the company's Nepali partner paid Rs 10 billion.

Likewise, the Ministry of Finance has directed the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) to inform about the progress on capital gains tax collection.

Secretary at the Ministry Shanta Raj Subedi has issued such directive to the Director General of the IRD Chudamani Sharma. RSS
