  • President confers National Film Awards

    Kathmandu, July 29: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Tuesday conferred the National Film Awards in eight different categories to artists showing exemplary performances.

     

    At a special ceremony held at the Shital Niwas by National Film Development Board, senior artist Nir Bikram Shah, with a long history of contribution to the Nepali film industry, was conferred Chalchitra Dirgha Sadhana honour with a cash prize of Rs 351,011.

     

    President Yadav conferred the Best Film Award to Nepali celluloid Kabbadi while giving the Best Director award to Nischal Basnet, who directed Talakjung vs Tulke.

     

    Likewise, the best actor award went to Dayahang Rai of motion picture, Abhineta, best actress to Richa Sharma and Sangam Bista of Love You Baba.

     

    In script writing, Kabbadi's Upendra Subba and Ram Babu Gurung were awarded while editing and cinematography awards went to Nimesh Shrestha and Shailendradwoj Karki of Zhigrana respectively. In the category of the Indigenous Nationality film genre, Sunita Budhathoki Magar of Rai Bhasko Matan was awarded.

     

    On the occasion, President Yadav commended the contribution made by film artists in entertaining and working for the welfare of the society through the medium of motion pictures. "Film is the bearer of national identity while a mirror of contemporary society," President Yadav said, adding, "The Film sector has made an important contribution in presenting the transformation seen in social cultural value and human sentiment."

     

    "The film sector has also made a significant contribution in social transformation," the President said. Underscoring the country's course through an important phase of constitution making, President Yadav stressed for concluding the constitution writing in adherence to due process and regulation.

     

    He reminded the major political parties of his persuasion to draw the disgruntled sides inside and outside of the Constituent Assembly while moving forward in constitution making process while pressing for promulgating the new constitution on basis of the principle of constitutionalism. "Constitution is an instrument of the country that is passed along from generation to generation. It should carry the spirit of democracy, proportional system, inclusiveness and the national value. The constitution must be delivered by resting the political consensus among the parties in the principle of constitutionalism," President Yadav insisted.

     

    On the occasion, Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Minendra Rijal said the awards conferred on active artists would motivate them to work with more vigour in their profession while expressing the belief the awards would help in encouraging the upgradation of the quality of the sector.

    He said maximum forces outside and inside of the CA would be included to draft the new constitution.

     

    Nepal Film Development Board Chairman Raj Kumar Rai said the Board was bent on fulfilling its objective to make Nepali films more disciplined and professional and create films to supply in the world market. RSS
